Abstract
|
|
|
Clinical effect of Cefotiam was studied and the follwoing results were obtained.
1) Cefotiam was given intravenously 2.0 to 4.0 gm daily to 25 patients, consisted of 16 cases of pneumonia, 3 cases of aspiration pneumonia, 2 cases of empyema, 1 case of lung abscess, 2 cases of sepsis and 1 case of acute pyelonephritis.
2) Clinical responses were excellent in 11 cases (44%) , good in 10 cases (40%) and poor in 4 cases (16%) with efficacy of 84%(21 out of 25 cases)
3) 26 strains of bacteria were isolated. Of 26 strains, 22 strains were eradicated. (84.6%) Eradication rate was high in Strept. pneumoniae, Streptococcus, fl. influenzae and Klebsiella. Bacteroides corrodens was not affected by Cefotiam.
4) As side effects, thrombocytosis in 2 cases and elevation of SGOT and SGPT in 2 cases were observed.
